The Phantom Blade Zero puppet boss you will meet most often is Yuzan, No. 3 Musician Puppet, but Puppets are one of four boss categories in the game alongside Masters, Maskwalkers and Perfect Transcensions. A Puppet is a mechanical marionette built from prosthetics, wires and rig rather than a living martial artist, and each numbered Puppet carries its unit number in its name. Four of them make up the set that awards the gold achievement The Four Freed.

Beating only three of the four leaves The Four Freed incomplete, and two of the four sit off the main path — Yubi and Yucong are optional fights, so a fast run through Mandate Encampment and Crimson Forest can leave you one short without ever noticing.

The other Phantom Blade Zero puppet boss fights

The set above is not the whole category. Hua, the Bride waits in Weeping Creek Valley hidden below the Valley Sha-Chi Tower and drops the Scarlet Wraithblade, along with the Flesh Lily that opens a quest. The Puppet Scavenger is a separate optional fight in the same region that awards Nothing Goes to Waste and drops the Alloyed Scythe Blade. Dusk, the Puppeteer in Village of Lu drops the Puppeteer's Bell, which summons allies that pull aggro. The Aberrant Three-Faced Puppet drops the Three-Headed Doll.

Puppets do not take bleed

One practical difference matters when you pick a loadout: Puppets do not take bleed damage, so Bleed setups such as Jagged Steel do nothing against them. Guard break and raw damage work normally, and they stagger the same way as any other enemy.

That makes the choice of weapon an answer rather than a preference. If you have carried Jagged Steel the whole way and hit a Puppet wall, swap to something that breaks guard instead — the Dread Axe adds guard-break damage, and the Outlaw Warblade's lifesteal keeps you healthy while the raw numbers do the work.

The Four Freed achievement

The Four Freed needs all four Great Puppets, which makes it one of the multi-boss achievements that quietly decides whether a completion run is going to succeed. It sits alongside Three Wardens Fall, The Two Blade Masters and Master of the Misty Waters, and all four pull from the same pool of optional fights. The trophy guide lays out the whole achievement route in order so you can plan which regions to sweep on the way past.
