Find The Needle stuck at 5 of 6 needles no hay left is a four-place check: the ground, the Silo, every branch that bypasses the scanners, and whether it was already sold. Work through them in that order, and record the needle count, the remaining hay, the Silo status and the scanner route before you change anything. Do not delete your save or dismantle the factory to test a theory.

Find The Needle stuck at 5 of 6 needles no hay left: the four places to check

  1. Check the loose hay on the ground. A needle can be sitting in hay that has already been dug out rather than in the pile — one transcript showed an uncovered needle being carried away by an arm. Pause nearby collectors and secure it.
  2. Check the Silo status. If it reads Needle Waiting, the needle is trapped inside a packed wad and the Silo will not release it.
  3. Check every branch that leaves your main line. A side line fed by a robotic arm can carry a needle past the scanners to the stand.
  4. Check whether it was sold. A needle sold inside a hay product returns to the pile, so it may simply be back in the hay you have already cleared.

That is the whole list, and it is why the layout of your lines matters here: the fourth item only shows up if some route reaches the stand without passing a scanner.

A needle that reached the sell stand

The usual cause is a branch that skips the scanner. Products can take an alternative route, and robotic arms can place material onto a nearby reachable belt, so a side line can carry a needle straight past the main scanner to the Hay Sell Stand. Inspect every reachable belt and make sure the side routes pass through a scanner too, including the routes that rejoin the line after the scanner.

The good news is that the needle is not lost: a needle sold inside a hay product returns to the pile, so it goes back into the haystack and you have to find it again. Track the needle count and the remaining hay so you can tell whether the same needle keeps escaping. How detection works in the first place is in needles and scanners.

A Silo that says Needle Waiting

It means a needle is stuck inside a packed hay wad and the Silo will not release it. One reported status read 44 Loose Straw and 1 Needle Waiting with no further Silo output, while the hay on the ground had already been sold off.

Back the save up first, and do not treat dismantling the Silo as guaranteed recovery — removing it can destroy a needle. A stuck Silo has no dependable one-step fix, so treat it as something to record and report rather than something to take apart.

When the pile is empty and you are short one needle

Running a pile out is the design, not a fault: the game is built around running out of hay and going looking for needles, so a pile is a finite budget for the run. What the burners accept in the meantime, and why the best fuel needs more power than you may have, is on the power grid page.

This is a known report, and no general fix has been established for it. The usual return-to-pile behaviour does not prove that a missing needle resolves itself on its own.

What you can do:

  1. Work through the four places above in order.
  2. Keep the save. Do not delete progress or dismantle the whole factory to test a theory.
  3. Record the needle count, the remaining hay, the Silo status and the scanner route, and report those details on Steam.
  4. If all six needle types are in hand but the pile is empty, the delivery board's Prestige - New map option starts a fresh cycle, and it writes a backup before the map changes.

What to record before you change anything

  • The needle count in the cabinet.
  • The remaining hay.
  • The Silo status display, including any Needle Waiting count.
  • The scanner route: which lanes pass a scanner and which do not.
