New Game Plus in Phantom Blade Zero carries over exactly four things: your equipment, your progression items, your ability training and the Archives. Quests, maps, key items and the remaining days of the 66-day counter all reset. You enter it by finishing the campaign, then speaking to Inanis after the credits, and then fast travelling from any Bell to the Puppet Cell at the Mountain of Imprisonment.

There is no new story content locked behind it. The studio's director, Soulframe Liang, put it plainly: "New Game Plus is in the game," and "nothing new is hidden behind it."

How to start a New Game Plus run

  1. Finish the campaign. The credits have to roll first — New Game Plus is not available from the title screen until you have completed the story once.
  2. Speak to Inanis after the credits. She is the one who opens the option.
  3. Fast travel from any Bell to the Puppet Cell at the Mountain of Imprisonment. That is where the new run starts.

New Game Plus can be started at any point after the credits, so there is no deadline pressure once you are past the ending.

That split is the whole design. You keep the character you built and throw away the world state, so a second run is the campaign you already know with the kit you already earned.

What is waiting for you in the second run

The last 10 weapons change how the early game plays. Liang's point is that the late-game weapons give you fresh approaches against the early bosses — "at least the last 10 weapons open up a fresh way to play in New Game Plus or 66 Days mode." So a run you already know becomes a different fight, not a faster one.

66 Days mode is the other half of the post-game loop. It is the challenge option, capped at 66 lives, and it is unlocked once you have finished the game. The 66 Days page covers how it works and what the retry cap means.

Does New Game Plus unlock Hellwalker?

The published sources disagree, so check in-game rather than trusting either one.

  • Beebom says New Game Plus "also unlocks the Hellwalker difficulty", and describes Hellwalker as adding new boss move sets and AI that learns from your movements.
  • Push Square's difficulty tier list treats the extra tier that appears after you finish the game as 66 Days, the permadeath challenge mode — Hellwalker is listed as the hard difficulty tier that is already in the game from the start.

The practical reading: 66 Days is definitely the post-game unlock, because it is a separate mode. Whether beating the game also unlocks Hellwalker is the part the two write-ups contradict. The difficulty levels page has what each tier changes, so you can see the difference once you are in the menu.

Is New Game Plus needed for the Platinum?

No. Neither New Game Plus nor 66 Days mode is required for the PS5 Platinum, and difficulty can be changed without invalidating anything you have already earned. The trophy guide page has the one-run Platinum route on the 36-trophy PlayStation list.

New Game Plus was newly answerable at the launch on 28 October 2026, and this page was written on 2026-10-30. The carry-over list and the entry steps come from the launch coverage and from the site's own post-credits walkthrough, so re-check them after the first post-launch patch — the version history page is where a new build would show up.
