The bosses in Zombie Assault: Resurgence sit at the end of some missions, and they can also cut an Operation short: if an Operation rolls a boss ending, the extraction is delayed until the boss is down. Each boss brings its own combat rhythm, strengths and weaknesses, and the roster mixes fan favourites from the earlier Zombie Assault games, reimagined with new mechanics and visuals, with brand-new abominations built for Resurgence. The developers describe these fights as among the most intense moments in the game.

Where boss fights appear

  • At the end of some missions, where they are the climax rather than a surprise.
  • In Operations that roll a Boss ending, which delays the extraction until the boss is down.
  • In every Story Mission, where the encounter is deliberate rather than random.

The roster has two halves to it. The achievement Five Families tracks taking down each of the 5 original bosses, so the launch build contains the five reworked originals from the earlier SAS games as well as new Zombie Assault: Resurgence bosses.

The ending that pulls a boss into an Operation is one of three — Simple, Rush and Boss — and the operations page explains how the vote and the modifiers around it work.

The named bosses

  • Regurgitator — one of the two bosses in the Next Fest demo, shown in a redesigned form with fresh animations. Its death is an explosion, so standing next to it when it dies is a mistake.
  • Shredder — the second demo boss.
  • Bulwark — the boss that flattens you.
  • SAVAGE REANIMATOR — the boss shown in the official store-page screenshots, fought in a four-player squad with the objective tracker reading DEFEAT THE BOSS.

Each Story Mission adds its own new boss encounter on top of that roster, and the story missions page lays out the campaign in unlock order.

How the fights are built

The fights are designed to use the mission itself:

  • Bosses have visible health bars and clear visual feedback when they change phase.
  • Phases and environmental hazards are part of the fight, not decoration, so the map you are standing in matters.
  • Boss pods and zombie nests are separate destructible spawn points, tracked by the achievement Pimple Popper for wiping out 250 of them.
  • Operation mission types can feature randomised boss encounters, while Story Missions place them deliberately.

What you bring into the room is up to you, and a boss is the fight where a saved second loadout earns its keep — the loadout page covers the slots and the saved setups.
