The launch build of Zombie Assault: Resurgence splits into three game modes: Story Missions, Special Operations and the bounty board. The store page calls the middle one Special Operations and the developers' own diaries and the in-game HUD call them Operations — it is the same system. Regular multiplayer events, clans and the seasonal event structure of the older Zombie Assault games are explicitly post-launch plans, not things you can queue for today.
The three game modes
| Activity | What it is | Where to read more |
|---|---|---|
| Operations | The repeatable core. Each one is dynamically generated rather than hand-built, and ends in an extraction | How an Operation runs |
| Story Missions | The campaign. Four full missions plus two short tutorials, each about twice the length of an Operation | The campaign in order |
| The bounty board | Passive objectives you pick before a mission and then complete by playing normally | Bounties and passive objectives, below |
Bounties and passive objectives
The bounty board works like this: you pick objectives before a mission, then you complete them by playing the mission normally.
- Early bounties are simple, such as killing a set number of Shamblers or completing an operation without going down.
- More advanced ones unlock as you level up, including Vendor-Specific Contracts and Research-Grade Assignments.
- You start with a limited number of bounty slots and gain more by levelling.
- They pay out Creds and other currencies.
The board is tracked in tiers and grades: Bounty Seeker for 50, Bounty Hunter for 250, Bounty Expert for 1,000, and Degraded for completing a bounty of each grade level. Since bounty slots are tied to your level, the level numbers matter here as well — the max level page covers which level numbers are actually known.
What is not in the launch build
Regular multiplayer events, clans and the seasonal event structure of the older games are all post-launch plans. The developers said that when a player asked where the other game modes were, the focus at launch is the core game experience first.
That does not leave co-op unfinished, though. Up to four players can run an Operation or a Story Mission together, and friends are invited from inside the game — the co-op page covers the squad rules, the party flow and crossplay.
Maps
Maps available in the demo and early builds are the Mining Facility, the Abandoned Colony and the Icefield. Story Missions move to new unique locations, and the map you play on is chosen by the Operation, which can change slightly along the way depending on the mission type and the ending it rolls.
