Zombie Assault: Resurgence launches with four full Story Missions plus two short tutorial missions that set the stage, and more are already planned for post-launch to expand the narrative. The four campaign missions are Investigate Asteroid, Return to Regen, Ruptured Reality and Into the Void, and they unlock in order because the story is delivered in chapters. Each one is roughly twice the length of an Operation, sits on its own map, and features a new boss encounter.
The campaign in order
| Mission | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Investigate Asteroid | The opening of the investigation into how the undead returned |
| Return to Regen | Into an overrun Regen facility |
| Ruptured Reality | A world abandoned by the corporations |
| Into the Void | Beyond USI space itself, to the nature of Void energy and the Breaches |
Two more achievements cover the opening: Welcome Recruit! for finishing the Prologue, and the tutorial missions that come before the campaign proper. Every campaign mission ends in its own boss encounter, and the bosses page covers who is waiting at the end of each one.
How story missions differ from Operations
A Story Mission is a step up from an Operation in every respect:
- Roughly double the length.
- Set on new and unique maps, not the shared Operation maps.
- Packed with new mechanics and mission-specific twists.
- One new boss encounter each, scripted rather than rolled at random.
The unlock order matters in practice: the story missions open up the areas that the Operations then run through. Which means the repeatable loop and the campaign feed each other, and the operations page covers the loop the story unlocks.
The story so far
You stumble across the return of the undead, and the USI drafts you into an investigation into how it happened and how it ties into Regen, a geoengineering company that has been hinting at a huge breakthrough in terraforming. The mystery takes you into an overrun Regen facility, then into a world abandoned by the corporations, and finally beyond USI space itself, all to uncover the nature of Void energy and the real function of the Breaches.
What is on the other end of that story is the undead itself, and the rules for fighting it — including why damage types do not multiply against it — are on the enemies page.
Optional objectives inside the missions
Optional objectives are scattered through the campaign as well:
- Hidden loot areas to find in the chapter 1 missions.
- A shortcut to discover in Ruptured Reality.
- Nests that can be left standing in Into the Void.
- A Regen sign in the courtyard that can be destroyed.
- A challenge in Return to Regen to activate all four power units at once and survive.
The power units are worth understanding before you try that last one: they crush zombies in bulk, and they will flatten a mercenary standing in the wrong place as well. The full list of environmental hazards is on the enemies page.
