Steam lists exactly two Culdcept games, and the choice is mostly about whether you want local multiplayer. Culdcept BEGINS (appid 3322630) and Culdcept The First (appid 3825600) both released on 29 July 2026. The one difference that decides most purchases is local multiplayer: the Steam version of BEGINS has no shared or split-screen, while Culdcept The First does, and GameShare for four players is a Nintendo Switch 2 feature.

So BEGINS alone at $40.49 against the bundle at $63.43 is $22.94 for both, and The First at $29.99 sits below either. The full BEGINS price breakdown, including the free Early Purchase Bonus that is running until 27 December 2026 JST, is on the Steam launch offer page.

Why the local multiplayer difference is the decision

The Steam version of BEGINS has no shared-screen or split-screen local multiplayer, and GameShare — the one local multi-device feature in the game — belongs to Nintendo Switch 2 only. On Steam, a second player means going online or taking a board against the AI. The local multiplayer page has the detail: what does not exist on PC, what GameShare does, and the two online routes that do work.

Culdcept The First is the one that carries shared and split-screen. If you are buying to put two people in front of one PC, that is the row that decides it.

The other reasons to choose

  • A physical edition. The publisher released a physical edition for Europe and North America on 17 September 2026, and the Steam version is the third and latest release of the game — so the digital copy is the most recent one, and the physical copy is the one you can buy without a Steam account.
  • Which game you want to learn. The Steam version of BEGINS is the third and latest release, with three new maps and the improved battle Information screen that the battle interface page covers.

Try both for free

Each game has a free demo, so the price is not the only way to decide. On the game's own Steam discussion board, the buyers who had never heard of the series say the demo is what settled it for them.
