Culdcept BEGINS local multiplayer on Steam does not exist: the PC version has no shared-screen or split-screen mode, and the only local multi-device feature in the game, GameShare, is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive. A second player on Steam has to play online or take a board against the AI.

Culdcept BEGINS Local Multiplayer: Not on Steam

  • The Steam version of Culdcept BEGINS has no shared-screen or split-screen local multiplayer.
  • The Steam store lists the game under Single-player, Multi-player, PvP and Online PvP, but not Shared/Split-Screen Co-op, and players have been asking for local multiplayer in the game's Steam discussions since launch without it being added.
  • The Steam build also has no second controller setup for two players at one machine, so a second gamepad does not create a local match.

Where Local Multiplayer Does Exist: GameShare

GameShare is the one local multi-device feature in the game, and it belongs to Nintendo Switch 2 only.

  • As long as one player owns the copy, up to four people can play together, either nearby over the same system or through Game Chat over the internet.
  • Anyone who received the game through Sharing can only play it while using the Sharing feature.
  • GameShare battles use their own selection: six different types of Books with unique characteristics, plus a set of maps recommended for battle, rather than the Books and maps you have built yourself.
  • GameShare is a Nintendo Switch 2 system feature, so it is not available when you play on Steam.

What to Do on Steam With a Second Player

On Steam, a second player means going online — matchmaking or a room match against another player — or playing a second board in Solo Battle against the AI. Multiplayer modes lists all four modes and what each one is for.

Alliance Books for 2v2

If the second player is going to be an ally in Alliance 2v2 rather than an opponent, the two Books have to be built to work together. Deck lists and deck codes includes the alliance Books and their codes.
