The simplest and often most effective Culdcept BEGINS card combos are a Creature plus an Item inside a single battle. A Creature that strikes first with Binding Whip paralyzes the attacker, and Bandit with Executor turns an invasion into a large theft of both magic and land.
Culdcept BEGINS Card Combos: The In-Battle Pairings
- Any Attacks First creature plus Binding Whip (AT+30, and on a successful attack it adds Paralysis to the enemy creature). A Creature that strikes first paralyzes the attacker, so the opponent's turn is wasted. Centaur is a natural partner because its Items return to the Book at the end of the battle.
- Any creature with Regeneration plus Spiked Shield (Reflects Attacks for 50% of the damage): the creature heals fully at the end of the battle while the shield sends half the damage back.
- Any creature with Neutralizes Scroll Attacks or Reflects Scroll Attacks plus Counter Shield (Reflects Attacks) or Gaseous Form (Neutralizes Attacks).
Creature-to-Creature Pairings
- Bandit plus Executor. Bandit is a Support creature whose attack steals magic equal to twice the damage dealt, and Executor is a 40+ G creature with AT 70 and HP 20/20 that needs a discard. The two together turn an invasion into a large theft of magic, which is how the Infernal Vacation deck drains opponents.
- Cait Sith plus Buckler. Cait Sith is Anti-Spell and Neutralizes Attacks against base AT 40 or over; Buckler Neutralizes Attacks against base AT 30 or under. Together they cover the whole attack range and cannot be targeted by Spells.
- Centaur plus any Item. Centaur Attacks First and returns the Items used on it to the Book at the end of the battle, so an aggressive Book can reuse its best weapon every turn.
- Angry Mask plus Tonfa. Angry Mask reduces the enemy creature's HP by the damage your creature took, and Tonfa makes the equipped creature attack twice — the classic combo.
Creature-to-Spell Pairings
- Conjurer plus Evil Blast. Evil Blast removes the defender, then Conjurer's Territory Ability puts a Ba-Al onto the vacated land in the same turn.
- A creature plus a Shift Spell. Fire Shift, Water Shift, Earth Shift and Air Shift convert one of your territories, so you can move a land into or out of a chain without fighting for it.
Breaking a Chain Without a Fight
Capturing one land inside an opponent's chain collapses the multiplier across the whole chain, which is often worth more than three fresh territories of your own. Spells are how you do it when your creatures cannot — Meteor drops a chained territory two levels, Locust and Subsidence drop one level, and the Shift spells convert a land's element so it leaves the enemy's chain.
Why One Land in a Chain Beats Three
Chain-breaking is the strongest economic move in the game, because the multiplier applies to every land in the chain rather than to the one you took. Total Magic and land chain value shows what a chain is worth and how the collapse is calculated.
Support: The Mechanic That Ties a Book Together
A Support creature can use creature cards from your hand as items, so a Book built around Bandit, Sage, Odradek, Son Ascetic or Sakuya can keep spending cards on the same turn. That is what lets the pairs above keep firing all game instead of once.
The Cards Behind These Combos
The pairs only work because the individual cards do what their text says, so it is worth checking what each one is worth on its own. The card tier list ranks them by what they do rather than by their numbers.
