Culdcept BEGINS guide advice comes down to five habits: Total Magic is land value rather than cash in your pocket, you keep a reserve for tolls, you only upgrade land you can defend, you read abilities before attack numbers, and you open with cheap creatures that earn while your bombs wait for the land that decides the map.

Culdcept BEGINS Guide: Tips From the Cepter Wisdom Series

The tips the game hands you cover the whole loop:

  • Roll the dice and complete circuits as quickly as possible — every lap earns more and more magic.
  • Summon Creatures to expand your domain and your Total Magic.
  • Summon onto an opponent's domain to start a battle and claim it.
  • Practise battles to learn the combat system.
  • Use Spells to gain the edge.
  • Level up lands by cultivating your domains.
  • Support your Creatures with Items.

Five Habits That Decide Your First Books

  1. Total Magic is not the cash in your pocket. It is your cash plus the value of every land you hold, upgrades included, so money sitting in reserve contributes far less than the same amount invested in territory.
  2. Keep a reserve of G for tolls and defensive cards. A high total with an empty purse loses to the next expensive toll.
  3. Upgrade lands you can actually defend. Chains of the same element multiply land value and the tolls they charge, so early upgrades should go into lands you can hold.
  4. Read abilities before statistics. First strike, penetration, regeneration, elemental immunity and land-type triggers decide fights that the raw numbers say you should lose. Both sides may play Items in a battle, and you can look at your opponent's whole hand at any time, so an obviously valuable land is usually guarded.
  5. Open cheap. The opening is the hardest part of a match: load the early Book with cheap, disposable Creatures whose only job is to sit on land and generate income, and save the expensive bombs for the two or three lands that decide the map.

When Something Misbehaves, Check Your Version

Update 1.0.6, released September 15, 2026 for the Switch and Switch 2 editions, adjusted the disconnection detection during online matches to reduce how often players are dropped mid-match, and fixed crashes around Book editing and the Card Shop.

Start Your First Match With the Turn Loop

Once the habits are in place, the next thing to know is how a single turn works: cast a spell if you want to, roll the dice, move, then act. How to play a match walks that loop through step by step.

Build the Opening Book

The Book you bring to the first few stages decides how much income you have early. Deck building covers the 40-card shape, the job each Creature should have, and the cards worth cutting.
