The Harvest Moon: Echoes of Teradea pets include 52 wild animal types spread across 386 spawn points, and they are not scenery. Tame them and they become companions that carry you, guard you, deliver items and fight off predators.
Harvest Moon: Echoes of Teradea pets and the 52 wild types
| Fact | Number |
|---|---|
| Wild animal types | 52 |
| Spawn points | 386 |
| Out at any time of day | 280 spawns |
| Morning and day only (6 AM–4 PM) | 88 spawns |

Each type has its own time-of-day window, storm behaviour and favourite food, so the spawn data is what you plan a taming route from.
How to tame one
Wild animals are tamed by creeping up on them, petting them and offering food. After a few encounters like that the animal is tamed, but you need barn space before you can take it with you.
They attack rather than run, so bring food and a mount with a stamina-recovery benefit into predator country. A mount's stamina takes a hit if it triggers a wild-animal alert, and enough hits means it gives up, pulls "Later, loser!" and returns to the farm animal barn — which is how you can end up stranded in a remote region.
52 wild animal types and where they spawn
The favourite foods are the practical way to plan a route, because you need the food in your pack before you go:
- Crucian Carp (74 spawns), Egg (70), Carrot (64), Sunflower Seeds (54), Grass (33).
- Cod (16), Potato (13), Goby (10), Red Seabream (9), Shiitake Mushroom (5).
Individual examples: Fox, Budgie, Dingo, Ferret, Ocelot and Pallas's Cat all want Egg; Alpaca, Llama, Black Horse, Dark Brown Horse, Dark Chestnut Horse, Silver Dapple Horse and White Horse want Grass; the Dromedary Camel wants Watermelon; the Iriomote Cat wants Rainbow Trout; the Owl wants Sardine; the Zebra wants Striped Eggplant; the Panda wants Bamboo Shoot; the four Sasquatches want Harvest Goddess Mushroom or Agate; the Polar Bear wants Cod or Crucian Carp; the Asian Black Bear wants Moonstone.
The ones worth carrying — the horse, the camel and the reindeer — are on the mounts page.
Boarding instead of releasing
Small pets live in your house and large pets and livestock live in the barn. When the house or the barn fills up, board the extras at the Animal Center rather than releasing them — that is the deliberate design of this game, unlike older Harvest Moon entries where you had to let animals go.
Boarded animals slowly increase their skills even while they wait, though their affection does not change. So boarding is not a penalty: it is a parking space for animals that are still levelling up. The barn and its costs are on the animal list page.
The Cockatiel and other companions
The Cockatiel is the first companion you meet and it has the most obvious payoff. Early in the story you are asked to tame the bird and take it back to the Animal Center for evaluation; Betty then activates the Animal Center functions and you can pick the bird up at any time. Taming it takes a head rub — it is a small bird alone west of the Bloomfield West Entrance bridge.
Once the delivery service becomes available, the Cockatiel can send items back to your farm while you are still out adventuring, which matters most when your inventory fills up half way through a distant region. Its favourite foods are Mushroom and Sunflower Seeds, and it hides in storms, so check the forecast before you go looking.
Companions are not decorative: they give skills such as stamina recovery, cold tolerance and movement speed. The skill-bearing mounts are on the mounts page.
