The Harvest Moon: Echoes of Teradea animal list runs to 93 animals, and you start with a barn already repaired, a newborn calf waiting inside as a gift from the village, and a horse. Everything else comes from the Animal Center in Bloomfield Village.

What the Animal Center sells
The Animal Center in Bloomfield Village is the hub for everything animal. It sells the livestock above, it is where you board animals when the barn is full, and it holds the Feeder Machine that turns weeds and grass into animal feed.
It also has a role in the story: Betty at the Animal Center evaluates the Cockatiel you tame in the first chapter, and her evaluation is what activates the Animal Center's functions. Fritz at the same counter asks you to tame the bird in the first place and later requests materials for an Egg Incubator — 10 Sturdy Board Lumber, 10 Grass and 3 Silkie Egg.
The Feeder Machine is where your feed comes from, and the animal feed page covers how to run it and what grazing saves you.
Barn space and the Animal Barn Upgrade
The starting barn has 8 spaces with feed bins. The Animal Barn Upgrade is sold by Jimmy in Maplehill and costs 15 Material Stone, 15 Palm Square Lumber, 10 Grass and 15,000 G; it expands the barn to hold 8 livestock and large pets plus 8 chickens.
Eight spaces is tight from the start. The roster of what actually needs a slot is on the mounts page, and the pets that live in your house rather than the barn are on the pets page.
Boarding instead of releasing
If you run out of room, board the extras at the Animal Center instead of releasing them. Boarded animals slowly gain skill points, although their affection level does not change, and you can collect them again once you have space.
That is a deliberate design choice in this game, and it is the answer to the one question older Harvest Moon games made you think about constantly: you never have to let an animal go. Boarding is also how you free a whistle slot without losing the mount.
Feeding is one feed per animal per day, and hand-feeding an animal its favourite food raises the quality of the product it produces — the same list that works for villagers. That is on the animal feed page.
The barn book
There is a book in the barn that lists your animals and their information. Focusing a rideable animal in it is also where you assign it to a whistle slot — there are 4 slots, and boarding an animal you do not want to carry is the way to free a slot without losing the mount.
So the barn book is three things in one: the roster, the mount assignment screen and the place where you check an animal's condition before you leave home.
