The last Crystal falls in chapter 7 and the gate to Paladia opens. The final conflict is in the Crystal Tower in chapter 8, recommended level 55, against Behemoth, Sol, the Keen of Fury and finally Chaotic Darkness at level 55.

FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE ending explained

What happens, in order:

  1. Sol, one of the Eight Sages of Hess, wants all life destroyed. He calls up Chaotic Darkness, which the game names the embodiment of the human mind and its desires, and the prayers of everyone you met on the journey carry the party through.
  2. Lux and Alluvion, two of the Sworn Six, die breaking Behemoth's defenses, and the prayers of the allies bring the party back.
  3. Dark Fina becomes a Crystal at the Earth Shrine, the same place the story began.
  4. Rain duels Sol alone and wins, not by overpowering him but by refusing to hate him. His answer is that he will trust in him. Rain collapses afterwards.
  5. Fina gives all of her power to Rain, and the epilogue closes on a shooting star.

The three revelations behind the story

  • Veritas of the Dark is Umbra, an image of Raegen made by Lux.
  • Raegen is Rain's father, and he is alive inside Gelidus's armour from chapter 6.
  • Dark Fina is Archwitch Fina, one of the Eight Sages of Hess, with her power having been flowing from Fina into her all along.

That last one is the twist the whole story points at, and both halves of it are on the characters list page.

What the ending leaves you

The ending is self-contained and the story ends there. There is no New Game Plus: what follows is the endgame, with the Colosseum's Champion League, the 12 Legendary Arms ultimate trials, Ultima Weapon after the credits, the remaining cave masters and espers, and the 99 Tablet Shards. The Champion League and its last fight are on the Colosseum page.

Keep the Cleared save the game offers you right after the ending. It resumes just before the final area with the whole world open, and it is the only way back for the endgame bosses, the Colosseum and every remaining chest.
