A party in FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE holds four of the eight heroes, and each of them equips a Vision that brings a second role — so four seats carry eight roles. The whole build rule follows from that: cover the six roles you need, not the damage numbers you can reach.
FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE best character builds, role by role
| Role | Heroes | Visions |
|---|---|---|
| Commando | 3 | 8 |
| Medic | 1 | 2 |
| Sentinel | 1 | 4 |
| Breaker | 1 | 10 |
| Synergist | 1 | 0 |
| Saboteur | 1 | 2 |
That distribution is the build rule. Start with the Medic, because only three exist in the whole game — Fina, Ayaka and Leah — then decide whether the fight needs Nichol's buffs or Dark Fina's debuffs, since no Vision brings the first and only two bring the second. Rain, Fina, Nichol and Dark Fina already cover Sentinel, Medic, Synergist and Saboteur on their own, so two Breaker or Commando Visions finish the six roles in a single party.
The chapter 1 standing party is Rain with Warrior of Light, Lasswell with Tronn and Fina with Leah: a Sentinel pair, a Breaker pair and a Medic pair.
What to buy with AP
A Vision's own abilities work for free; the AP goes on Mastery Rank abilities, which cost 10 to 60 each. Spend it on things that change a fight:
| Ability | Vision | Rank | AP | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stagger Power +20% | Tronn | MR 7 | 40 | More gauge damage on every hit |
| LB Charge Opener | Aileen | MR 5 | 25 | Fills the limit gauge by 50% at the start of a battle |
| LB Double Charge | Terra | MR 5 | 35 | Doubles the limit charge |
| Arms Akimbo | Firion | MR 9 | 60 | Two actions in one turn |
| Double Action | Squall | MR 9 | 50 | Two attack skills in a turn |
| Dualcast | Shantotto | MR 9 | 50 | Two spells in a turn |
| Reflex | Noctis | MR 3 | 20 | 25% chance to evade physical attacks |
| Spry Steps | Onion Knight | MR 3 | 20 | 25% chance to evade magic |
| Grit | Warrior of Light | MR 9 | 40 | Survive with 1 HP once per battle |
| Auto-Cure Ailments | Leah | MR 9 | 40 | Removes status ailments on its own |
| Hit and Run | Camille | MR 9 | 40 | 35% chance to nullify physical damage taken |
When a Vision reaches MR 9 its Spirit gives all five abilities in one slot for 20 to 50 AP less than buying them one by one, which is usually the better deal if you have the AP to spare. The Mastery Rank ladder and what each rank unlocks are on the visions guide page.
Element Eaters
Element Eaters sit at MR 9 and cost 50 AP each, and they turn an absorbed element into healing: Fire Eater on Clive, Ice Eater on Charlotte, Lightning Eater on Lightning, Water Eater on Tidus and Dark Eater on Sephiroth. Cecil's Dark Immunity cancels Dark damage for 30 AP. These are the passives that make the endgame bosses survivable, because they blunt the element the boss is throwing at you.
Test before you commit
The team planner shows the roles your party covers, the elements it deals, what it misses against a chosen boss, every hero's abilities and their AP cost. Check it before you change a Vision, not after a failed fight.
