A Vision is the crystallised essence of a legendary hero, and each of your party members equips one from the Equipment and Abilities screen. There are 26 of them in the game and no Vision is tied to a hero — whoever wears it uses its skills, so you can collect the ones you can reach and decide later.
FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE visions guide: Mastery Rank to Spirit
Four things make up a Vision: its Mastery Points, its Mastery Rank, its AP budget and, at the top of the ladder, its Spirit.
Mastery Points and Mastery Rank
Fighting with a Vision equipped earns Mastery Points for that Vision only. Enough Mastery Points raises its Mastery Rank from 1 to 9, which unlocks five abilities, stat bonuses and more AP. The ladder costs, depending on the Vision:
| Mastery Rank | Cost |
|---|---|
| MR 1 | 10 |
| MR 2 | 35 |
| MR 3 | 95-125 |
| MR 4 | 195-275 |
| MR 5 | 395-595 |
| MR 6 | 575-1,035 |
| MR 7 | 1,195-1,785 |
| MR 8 | 2,195-2,785 |
| MR 9 | 4,195-5,245 |
MR 9 is the goal, because that is where the Spirit unlocks.
Abilities and AP
A Vision's own abilities work as soon as you equip the Vision, at no cost. The abilities you earn by raising its Mastery Rank have to be equipped one by one, and each carries an AP cost from 10 to 60. The AP total is the budget for how many of them you can fit. Every rank ladder adds 8 AP at MR 4 and 8 more at MR 9, across 52 ranks on the 26 Visions.
Spirit
At MR 9 a Vision teaches its Spirit, which grants every one of its five Mastery Rank abilities as a single Mastery Ability in one equippable slot, at a discount of 20 to 50 AP against equipping the five separately. Spirit costs 90 AP for Tidus, Vaan, Wilhelm and Zidane, 95 for Aileen, Ayaka, Bartz, Cecil, Clive, Lightning, Terra, Warrior of Light and Y'shtola, 100 for Amelia, Noctis, Onion Knight and Victoria, 105 for Charlotte, Cloud, Leah and Squall, 110 for Camille and Tronn, 120 for Firion and Shantotto, and 130 for Sephiroth.
Magicite is the only way to awaken
Magicite comes in three sizes and raises the Vision's Mastery Level: a Magicite Shard takes it to level 1, a Magicite to level 2 and a Magicite Cryst to level 3. Prices in the Colosseum shop are 10,000, 50,000 and 250,000 gil. An awakening is not a stat bump — it is the gate on extra active skills and passives. Every source of it, from the espers to the merchant ship, is on the magicite page.
Mastery Rank abilities also carry passives such as HP +20% or Physical Attack +20%, and the attribute bonuses run HP +30 to +90, MP +10 to +30, and +5 to +15 to Strength, Stamina, Magic, Spirit or Speed depending on the Vision and the rank.
One more thing Mastery Rank unlocks: the Resonance, the Vision's signature attack, which fires at the end of a Sweeping Stagger.
The full roster of 26
The 26 Visions break down into 4 Sentinels, 8 Commandos, 10 Breakers, 2 Medics and 2 Saboteurs, with no Synergist Vision at all. The full list of names, their elements and every place they come from is on the visions list page.
What to buy with AP
Spend AP on abilities that change a fight rather than on numbers: Stagger Power, extra actions, evasive passives and turn-opening charge skills all pay back immediately, while a small stat bump mostly stops mattering after the story. The specific abilities worth buying, and what they cost, are on the party builds page.
