The FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE bosses all carry four numbers that decide the fight: level, hidden elemental weakness, stagger gauge and devastating attack. The tables below give all four for every story boss, and the level line matters as much as the weakness, because a boss well above your party breaks more slowly even when you hit its weakness.

Four entries in that table have conditions attached. Belmodar resists Lightning, Siren resists Water, Umbra resists Dark and Lux resists Light. Mom Bomb resists Fire. Liquid Thunder is immune to Lightning, Aether and the chapter 7 Aether are immune to Wind, and Alluvion is immune to Water in both of her fights. Liquid Flame absorbs Fire, which means hitting it with Fire heals it. Ignis resists and absorbs Fire and changes weakness by form, and Chaotic Darkness is immune to Dark and also changes weakness by form. The Umbra fight in chapter 1 is scripted and is not meant to be won; the fight against Lasswell in chapter 6 is fought as Rain alone against a gauge of 9,999.

How to read a weakness before you commit
A weakness is hidden until you hit it with the correct elemental attack, so there are three ways to find one without guessing:
- Equip a Vision that carries Libra. Leah and Cloud both have it from chapter 1, and Libra reads an enemy's level, HP, type, drops and weakness.
- Probe cheaply with a spell until something says Weak.
- Read the elemental scrolls in chapter 1 chests. The Grandshelt Castle, Earth Shrine, Mitra and Felicitas chests hand out Flame, Ice and Lightning Scrolls right before the bosses that fear those elements.
Once you know the weakness, the gauge preview tells you what a hit is worth before you commit, and the rest of the loop is on the combat guide.
What the weakness labels mean
| Label | Damage | Stagger |
|---|---|---|
| Weakness | x1.5 | x3 |
| Neutral | x1 | x1 |
| Resisted | x0.5 | x0.5 |
| Immune | None | None |
| Absorbed | Heals the boss | None |
The weakness is the only element worth using on a boss. Every optional fight has its own weakness and its own gauge as well — each cave master, esper, Colosseum fighter and Legendary Arms guardian — and the in-game bestiary lists all of them.
There is a lot left after chapter 8
The bosses above are only part of the fight content. 60 more wait outside the story, grouped into endgame bosses, Legendary Arms guardians, esper trials, cave masters, Colosseum bosses and two quest bosses. None of them is required to finish the story. The optional bosses page has the full breakdown and the 15 cave masters.
