Tensei Brave how to recruit allies is settled in a duel, not in a menu: the moment you meet a heroine, a turn-based battle starts on its own, and she joins your party whether you win or lose that fight.

Tensei Brave how to recruit allies: the duel that starts on its own

There is no roster screen and no "recruit" button. The recruitment sequence runs in this order:

  1. Meet the heroine. You find her during exploration, and the encounter triggers on its own.
  2. Fight the duel. It plays like an ordinary enemy encounter with the same command set, but it is deliberately a step harder than a normal fight.
  3. Finish the fight. The result decides which scene plays, not whether she joins. Losing means she takes the lead; winning gives the same kind of scene without the humiliation. She is with you afterwards either way.
  4. She stays with you. Once a heroine joins she stays with you, and her presence changes what you can do outside of battle.
  5. Re-check what was closed to you. Her field ability is what opens the routes you could not pass before, so a new recruit is worth walking back to an old area with.

How many allies there are to recruit

The game advertises "over 10 playable allies". The original Japanese release lists 26 female characters in total:

  • Emilia Howard, Natalia Elmanan, Meimei, Mii, Menelmia Earth
  • Natasha, Berry the Sweet, Lily, Leviathan, Lil
  • Atarante, Cassandra Stein, Meryuzina de Alpion, Jeanne d'Arc, Ruka
  • Chris Bell, Teresa, Draco Rachel, Anna, Lara
  • Elizabeth Noelle, Lucifer, Ibu, Gabriel, Mero, Elizabeth Blanc

What a heroine brings once she joins

Every companion has her own field ability, and it belongs to that character rather than to a menu: lighting up dark areas, breaking rocks, moving objects. On the field, the bottom-right HUD shows one portrait per party slot with the key that triggers that member's action — SPACE for the protagonist's action and J / K / L / H for the companions' abilities.

That is also why an ally changes what you can do in the field instead of only what she does in a fight. To see how a recruited heroine is placed into your fighting party and how her slot is read on screen, use the battle party setup guide.

When the Space key does nothing

Breaking rocks with the Space key needs more than Meimei alone. If the key does not respond, the fix is not to keep hitting the same rock — other characters have to be in the party as well, so keep recruiting instead of retrying it.

The same companion abilities are what gate whole areas, so a route that stays shut usually means one more ally is still missing. The unlock blocked areas guide lists the specific abilities, the rock puzzle and the known map blockers.
