Tensei Brave how to unlock blocked areas comes down to who you have recruited: routes open with the field abilities of your companions, so a closed path usually means one more heroine is still missing.
Tensei Brave how to unlock blocked areas: companion abilities gate the routes
Progress is gated by the abilities of the companions you have recruited. Each heroine has her own field ability that opens the way on — lighting up dark areas, breaking rocks, moving objects — so an area that was blocked becomes passable once the right companion is in the party.
Because the abilities belong to companions rather than to items, blocked routes have to be re-checked after every new recruitment. That is what gives the game its Metroidvania feel: old areas are worth revisiting the moment a new ability arrives. If your party is missing the right person, the recruit allies guide covers the duels that bring them in.
Opening a blocked route, step by step
- Walk up to the blocked spot and identify what is in the way: a dark area, a rock, or an object.
- Match it to a field ability — light for dark areas, rock-breaking for rocks, moving objects for the rest.
- Check whether that companion is in your party. The ability comes with the character, not with an item, so a missing one has to be recruited.
- Come back to the same spot afterwards. Routes you already walked are worth re-checking after every new recruit.
- For a rock, use the Space key. If nothing happens, stop retrying it: you need more than Meimei in the party.
- For a dark area or a movable object, use the companion's ability from her J / K / L / H slot on the field HUD.
- If the spot matches one of the known blockers further down, apply that workaround instead of repeating the steps above.
Breaking rocks and moving objects
Rocks are broken with the Space key. If the Space key does nothing, the problem is not the rock: you need other characters besides Meimei in the party, so keep recruiting instead of retrying the same rock.
Dark areas and movable objects work the same way, through the companions bound to the J / K / L / H keys on the field HUD. Once a new companion is in the row, the ability is used from her slot. The battle party setup guide shows how the slots are laid out and how to check that she is actually in your party.
Getting around the world map
The world map is not walked freely. You pick a destination from a list and are teleported there, and each location acts as one of the dungeons. The navigation feature for this was added in Version 1.0.7, so a map without a destination list is a version difference rather than a bug.
After a path opens, revive and heal the party before moving on, because the fight that opened it leaves them down.
Known blockers and their answers
- A cage in the Demon King Castle. Examining a cage with the wrong cage's key, or with no key at all, used to put the game into an infinite loop.
- Forest Map 2. A dungeon loop bug on this map was fixed in the same Version 1.0.9.7.3 update of 2026/08/15 that closed the Demon King Castle loop.
- The black-and-white graffiti door. There is one spot with a known workaround: the door opens if you choose 降参 (Surrender) in the battle there. Defeating the enemies in the order the graffiti shows does nothing, and you should revive and heal the party afterwards, because that fight leaves them down.
